This is showing the interior of the air intake filter housing, with everything gutted.
Interior baffles, along with the mounting tabs, air filter supports which were overkill, are all removed and smoothed over. This allows for improved airflow, velocity, and capacity. Yes, it would be just as easy to ditch the whole thing and get two "POD" type filters... but what's the challenge in that?

Seriously though, the CV style carbs prefer still, non-turbulant air, and they also like velocity stacks, two situations near impossible with "Pods".
