S1000RR Dealer Availability

My local dealer isn't expecting S1000RR models until January 2010, but conveyed a rumor that bikes would be shipped without keys so that they can be shown but not ridden until the model is officially released.

Like other dealers/brands, they would prefer to limit the amount of new inventory in order to allow time to move existing floorplan.

This particular BMW Dealer isn't entirely excited about the new model, unlike other BMW Dealers. Great roads abound in my area, which make for happy riders of traditional BMW Touring and Adventure models. They did have a K1300S (for $18k ) but weren't entirely thrilled with it either.

Re: S1000RR Dealer Availability

Gents, the S 1000 RR is currently eliciting truly rapturous reports from the European press (am talking about German [expectedly?], Brit, Italian, French and even Swiss mags).

Granted, most of the articles were written after the adrenalin-raising Portimao (Portugal) pan-European, press track session but, to sum up ALL what I have read thus far, that odd (by BMW's standards) bike is poised to dislodge Japan from its historical 1000cc in-line four supremacy.

Following Aprilia's magnificent RSV4 "Factory" launched earlier this year and Triumph's international contest-winning (3 years in a row) 675cc Daytona, it seems that Europe is fighting back.

I am all for it.

Re: S1000RR Dealer Availability

I've been lusting after the RSV4 for a while and love the look of the BMW. I think the most impressive thing about the Beemer was they were able to bring it in at the same price point as the Jap bikes. There is is a Daytona 675 in my future somewhere.

Re: S1000RR Dealer Availability

I'm worried about the price of the S1000RR. The local BMW Dealer quoted something not that far under a K1300S; but he is more focused on the touring customer that has supported his shop all these years.

He implied that the S1000RR may go by the wayside like some of BMW's previous attempts at bikes outside the Touring or Adventure interest. There was a valid point, but one would think that it's easer to go racing and market his particular model than to build a funky cruiser and attempt to draw in the Honda VTX or Harley crowd.
