The local BMW Dealer had this bad boy on the floor:

It's a demo bike that has 761 miles on it.

My boy was with me; wasn't able to put much focus on the experience but it felt light. The display lit up nicely when I turned the key, but didn't attempt to start it.

The clip-ons were a bit aggressive though, reminded me of some other euro-sportbikes I've ridden or owned.

The fairing and bodywork was a bit complex, but it seems that is going to be a trait shared by several new models.

We had to leave after 20 minutes, due to reports of snow moving into the area, but was glad to have finally made the trip there. Looking forward to coming back and doing a demo ride on it.

Re: Sat on a S1000RR

So did I , at the Martigny (Valais canton, 90 miles away from Geneva) bike show. The bike on display had the "factory" colors, white, red and blue. To me, it looked incredibly tiny, more like a 600cc than a 1000c superbike. Agree with your impressions, including the non-symmetrical fairing sides and the somewhat baroque overall bodywork design.

By way of contrast , the new-for-2010 MV Agusta 1000c on display on an adjacent stand looked stupendously good, in an integrated or cohesive sort of way. Aprilia's RV4 was also on display, so incredibly well-designed, the std (vs. "factory") edition looking quite spendid in white.

After eating regional veal sausages with fries and drinking some Humagne red wine (a Valais specialty), we rode back to Geneva along the lake... under pouring rain.

The riding season had just started!

Best. Jamie

Yup saw that a couple of weeks ago. Going to demo it as soon as the snow stops, June maybe.

I hear ya man. The weather is crazy.

What is even more strange is that the S1000RR is currently the only Euro-Sportbike available for sale through a local dealer in my area. Aprilia was dropped a few months ago, and Ducati/Triumph is still an out-of-state trip.
