CBR down

Took her to the shop today 3000 miles and drinking oil by the liter.

I am encouraged that the shop even looked at is a warranty issue.

From all the forums I have read and polls (unscientific) about 30% of the '08 1000RR's are using a lot of oil due to bad rings. Honda is telling people that complain that the levels of oil consumption are acceptable up to 100ml per 100 miles, that equals 1 liter per 1000 miles.

Maybe one good thing that will happen with the price discounting on the '08 models is that there will be more of them on the road and enough of the bad ones show they will be forced to do a recall.

Ironic that a Triumph guy who went to Honda is now complaining of quality issues on the Honda, and pining for the reliability of my trusty old Triumph.

To your point, it seems that oil usage isn't consistent among CBRs. Makes me wonder if Honda has pushed the envelope too far.

Hopefully the shop will throw in some new parts and make it right.

Re: CBR down

I think your going to run into bugs on the first year of a complete redesign, hopefully they are small and an easy fix. I noticed the only changes to the '09 were pistons rings and crank.
You may have hit in it though, in the race for lighter components and higher performance reliability may suffer. It is by far the best bike performance wise I have rode or owned, but there are areas like body work that they cheaped out on.
