VFR Battery Pricing

Yesterday I made it as far as lunch and one additional stop at a motorcycle accessory shop in Eureka Springs; and my vfr wouldn't turn over.

The battery was the original (2006 model) and it seemed likely that it was just old. It was trying to turn over but couldn't.

Luckily, I was stopped at a shop that also had a battery charger. Took less than five minutes to get a sufficient charge for a restart. From there we headed back to my preferred Honda Dealer.

They got me in quickly and didn't charge me labor to replace the battery. However, I was amazed at what it cost:

List: $ 155.78
Discount - $ 20.30
Subtotal: $ 135.48

Throw in tax and now I've got a new battery Took the long way home

Re: VFR Battery Pricing

Five years is about what I would expect from a battery. Keep mine on a battery tender and get about that much. Probably a little high on the price depending on what kind of battery, but when your dead on the road...

I have been reading a bit lately about Li Fe (lithium Iron) batteries and the upside sounds good. According to the company they have twice the service life of a lead acid battery. Don't discharge and will hold a charge for a year (no battery tender needed?). Best of all they weigh (claimed) one fifth as much as a lead acid battery. Of course they are pricey.

Not to be a shill but here is the link.

Re: VFR Battery Pricing

I did keep it on a tender, had it installed on the bike when I took delivery. There have been some comments that while some batteries could have lasted longer, to your point it is possible to spend less but the lower-priced alternatives would last roughly two years.

My brother shared a situation regarding a part inside his BMW's gas tank, that was designed before the Ethanol levels we see today. The part itself costs $175, and takes roughly twice that for the labor.
