Lightbulb Welcome !!

I would like to welcome our newest Member, Forchetto, to the fold.

From a technical standpoint, Forchetto has endless fantastic, and interesting "out-of-the-box" as well as paragmatic ideas and approaches.
Please join me in welcoming Forchetto to our growing Forum, and we all look forward to reading his fascinating new ideas and inputs.

So often in these style forums, we here the same drivel over and over. yeah... we get it. This is where Mr. F comes in, with new persepectives and slants on how to obtain the most... for the least (!) on our rides.

Thanks again for joining us.

Ride Safe!

Re: Welcome !!

Well here I am. Thank you for those words of welcome. I must say I've never been welcomed to any forum before I've contributed anything useful...

I have been gradually reducing my contributions and lowering my expectations on the "other" forum for a few days now, especially after some correspondence with some ex-members that have opened my eyes as to what the true purpose of it is: Flogging sponsors products and ignoring or belittling any opinions that do not fulfill that purpose.

A lot of very knowledgeable and useful technically competent guys have left (or been banned in the case of a very useful guy whose contributions are still in the "Stickies" list).

That forum thrives on an ever larger newbie count that feeds that commercial purpose of flogging more goodies.

We're left with a crowd of people that appear not to be able to use a search feature, owners manual or even basic Googling, and simply flood the forum with inane questions, you know the type:

"Hi dudes, I've just taken my bike out for the first time in six months from under a pile of dead leaves and when I press the starter button all I get is a "click" What do you reckon it is?"

A typical answer could well be:

"Hi there and welcome. What you need is to rip out your airbox, fit 200 mm XYZ carbs, a 1500 cc conversion kit, A-con hydrogen-filled shocks...that will sort it. And please don't under any circumstances refer to a Service manual, they're $70 and there are better things to spend your hard-earned dosh on with our sponsors."

Re: Welcome !!

Don't forget to use higher octane in that de-airboxed, TPUSA'd, de-rev limited, un silencered, argon / titanium shock filled 'monster' you've just created. It'll go even faster! Why... just look at my dyno-sheet for proof!

One last little retort, as these are very hard to resist:

"When you finally try out that 85 HP beast, you'd better have a change of underwear!"

That is an actual, real quote from that site. I'd hate to see that poor guy ride a Speed Triple, or a Hyabusa! Yuck!

In the end, unfortunately many of the originally very well intended bike forums go south as a result of a natural aging process, whether the focus is enthusiam for the sport... or cold, hard cash, and also how they are moderated. More often a handful of "Gang-Mentality" types take over, and suck in the weaker of the clan, the Moderators join in the gang, and the rest is history. No use in prolonging the agony, or even mentioning the ex-site going forward. Let it be as they say.

That said, time to focus on THIS site, and continuing the good, kindred spirit that we've experienced since day one. Most of us here are also refugee's of sorts from one site or another, so we're on common ground. You will also soon experience the fact that virtually all participating members here are of a very experienced status, meaning a good deal of time owning and riding many different style bikes, and most have done the usual mod's or rebuiilds, racing, cross country trips, etc at one point or another. All in all, a very "well rounded" group, although I'd love to shed a few pounds myself.

Please feel more than welcome to leap into the fray (frey?) at any time, and add to the knowledge base.

This diatribe coming up below is not aimed at you Ernesto, but to the entire "Cyber" world in general, as a reminder of "stuff' going forward. Once you've had the opportunity to read some of the "archived", old threads and posts here, you'll see that this is a great forum, with some very great, interesting people.

Especially in todays sad economic climate, and also because such modifications to our bikes are actually the most interesting, and useful. we'd like to hear about improving the performance and/or efficiencies (aren't they the same?) of our bikes on a zero, or low cost budget. Trip reports and motorcycling world news are also great.

Conversations over things like Pods Vs. Airboxes, Installing racing carburetors on a daily rider, spending $1000 on an exhaust because it's "really loud", installing big fat rear tires because they look cool, and / or spending more than say 15% of the original MSRP on a bike in bolt on "shopping list" mod's doesn't interest the more experienced folks here at all, so we can leave those ancient and tired old blarbs to "other" sites.

Then again, building a pure Race bike is another story, and always of interest, just so long as actual lap times, names of tracks, etc., are injected into the conversation, to verify the actual "Race Bike" intent, we're all ears.

PLEASE, no Dyno Charts to show a "2 HP increase at 15,000 RPM"! Thanks.

There... I feel better now. Let's get posting!

Ride Safe!

Re: Welcome !!

Prophet summed things up well enough. We're a small group, that is still developing and inventing itself, but I've still got faith that this site will grow as a place for enthusiasts.

Welcome Aboard!
