Post Spied: 2012 Triumph Trophy

All-new, large-displacement, shaft-drive tourer breaks cover
Forget the Tiger 800 and radically revised Speed Triple Triumph's all-new Trophy tourer, spied here during road testing in Spain, is the firm's most significant new model since the Daytona 675 was launched in 2006. Powered by a clean-sheet redesign of the firm's signature three-cylinder inline engine, this model introduces the next generation of large-capacity motorcycles from the British firm.

Thanks for the info. I don't buy the "most significant new model since the Daytona 675" comment, though. The late 2009 T'Bird was a clean slate design, wasn't it?

The old Trophy was a solid machine, but this one does show promise. I wonder if it would survive the comparisons with the likes of Goldwing and Concourse models.

Re: Spied: 2012 Triumph Trophy

Looks interesting. Other than the over-used "matte black" finish, this could be a great model.

Some points:
  • Price must be competitive, but Triumph always seems to do pretty good at this.
  • Should have something about it that defines it as "Triumph", and seperates it from the crowd.
  • If it's a "Triumph", then it should clearly out-perform it's immediate competition. BMW will be hard to beat in this category.
  • IMHO, they should have a "bare-bones" base model, then offer an endless array of accessories (Performance / Comfort / Technology) so that riders can individualize their rides as required. Not all of us need a 3D DVD player with surround sound.
Lastly... is Triumph getting into too many different models? Should they drop one model to take on another? How much focus can one company have?

Ride Safe!

Re: Spied: 2012 Triumph Trophy

Think the matte finish and odd bodywork is meant to disguise the final product.

Heard there may be a Tiger with the big three cylinder and shaft drive also.

Re: Spied: 2012 Triumph Trophy

There's really only one bike to compare to...the R1200RT. I had an '05 for a few years & although I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Triumph fan, the RT is in a class by itself. I've been waiting for this bike to come along ever since I sold both of my Sprint ST's. Since the Rocket 3 has probably pushed one to the limit, the shaft drive should have all the bugs out of it. Hopefully there will be an adjustable windscreen & cruise control option. I thought that the only thing the BMW could use was a little smoother motor...the big 3 cylinder should be perfect...can't hardly wait. Now I won't have to sell all my Triumph riding gear.

Re: Spied: 2012 Triumph Trophy

Welcome to the forum Tommy Morse!!

I hear ya... this looks exciting, and appears to be a nice rival to Kawa Concours / BMW 1200/1600 maybe.

My only further comment would be that i just wish they'd figure out how to make these new offers appear immediately as "Triumph".

There must be a way to shape/color the fairings, etc to retain a certain appearance, immediately identifiable as "Triumph".

Otherwise, we can all go out and buy Honkawasuzaha's.

Ride Safe!
