Re: Harley XR1200 gets Storz Performance make-over

This is interesting, and definitely a step in the right direction.

but...

1.) I see no actual "Performance" upgrades (as in modifications to the Power Plant), but agree that it is all in how you define the word.

2.) Weight loss plan is spot-on, good idea.

3.) Suspension upgrades will help tremendously. Nice work.

4.) I hope those header pipes / silencers are heat shielded. Otherwise... ouch! Do I smell bacon?

5.) Are those "clip-on" style bars going to smack into the side of the tank? Hope not. Don't most "Flat-Trackers" actually sit pretty much straight up as they counter-steer through the turns? Just sayin'.

6.) It would be nice to see some "Before / After" lap times, 1/4 mile runs, 60 to 80 mph roll ons, etc. Otherwise, what has been improved other than the appearance. Is it bling? Or are these changes really and actually beneficial in putting controllable and usable power through the rubber, and onto the road to end result in something... better? Since this is promoted as a flat track racer example, where are the lap times?

Lastly, you gotta wonder if the folks at HD evertake notice of such things. Shouldn't THEY have been on the forefront of something like this?

Nice job though LOOKS cool!

Ride Safe!

Re: Harley XR1200 gets Storz Performance make-over

When I test rode the XR1200 the two things I didn't like about it where the high bars and I hit the rev limiter three times on a 30 min demo.

The bars look to be in a better position (to my taste anyway) and raising the footpegs will give much better corner clearance. Changing over to a chain drive will give you much more flexibility in gearing choices and maybe keep somebody like me off the rev limiter. This has potential to be a fun bike, bet it has a nice price tag though.
