| Took a long ride today...10-31-08 It's been cold here but today dawned bright and cool with a forecast of 60 plus by noon.
I suited up about 10am. Long underwear, sweatshirt Triumph Paddock Jacket (It breaks the wind and is lined plus it has a high under helmet button down collar) and good leather riding gloves and set off. I rode through the countryside plus a bit of interstate and city riding...went down to Toledo, I had to stop at school and sign some papers for my department chair....
The KLR likes cool weather...It runs strong but it still uses oil above 5K...seems to be a KLR trait. The '08 has good wind protection with the full but abbreviated fairing and my added tall windscreen.
Lots of fall color here in Michigan and lots of motorists not seeing bikes. This time of year you have to ride pro-actively or become a statistic, something I don't want to be.
I met up with my riding buddy Dave on his KLR and we rode together for a time. I enjoy riding behind another KLR and listening to the thump thump of the exhaust note.
KLR's are unobtrusive in a world inhabited by loud muffled motorcycles. On a KLR, you tip toe on your rite of passage. It's a unique feeling.
This winter I'm going to refit both my KLR and Dave's with 685 Kits to end the oil burning. We should get a bit more power as well, however, the KLR will never be a street racer. It's not the KLR's forte'
220 miles and 6 ounces of oil. At least I know my top end is getting lubricated. |
