MotoGP Indianapolis - Should it be allowed to continue?

Between the twitter updates, and the MotoGP App displaying additional news on my android phone, it seems that Indy isn't a good place for MotoGP.

Nicky Hayden lost a knee puck, several great riders went down, and a 13-year old boy with a promising future paid the ultimate price. I didn't see one second of the event, but felt that I had been through enough.

Maybe that track is best left to Formula One. I wouldn't have had a good time to see that much damage and loss at Indy.

Re: MotoGP Indianapolis - Should it be allowed to continue?

They updated the road course at Indy a few years back for F1 before they bailed. If a track meets F1 standards it should be good enough for any series. The complaint from most of the riders was it was getting hot and "greasy". Colin Edwards pulled into the pits half way thru because he had had enough, I think maybe the young racers death may have weighed on his mind. Ben Spies ran his best GP race and looked like he might win it till the factory bikes caught him up. He is going to be great on the factory Yammy next year.

I don't like Indy for GP because it is not a motorcycle track, it's flat and just to huge. I'd love to see those GP bikes rip around Barber.

As for the 13 year old who died this was a sad situation. He went down on the warm up lap and was hit by another rider. Kids start moto racing at a young age especially dirt and there is risk involved. It must be tough on his family right now. My wife has refused to let my son have a bike and I haven't fought her on it so far, maybe I'll revisit it when he's 16.

I've already had some push-back on Facebook on my opinion of this, but agree with you. Indy doesn't seem like a good place for MotoGP. I checked some updates this evening and it seems that no one was at their best.

Last weekend was tough for motorcycle accidents. One of my distant cousin's parents both died in a motorcycle accident in Missouri last weekend as well, which caused the in-laws to have anxiety. They were already in another state for an aunt that passed away due to cancer a couple days before. This particular cousin rides on the back seat of a Harley already, at least she did up to now.

Would Barber qualify as a MotoGP track?

No Barber isn't big enough and would prolly have to make some changes safety wise to get up to GP standards. I would just love to see those powerful bikes navigate a tight track like that.

Miller would likely be the other best choice but it is in the west and they already have Laguna, and want the second race to be in the eastern half of the states. There are some places in the east like Road America or Watkins Glenn but Indy has the facilities and the money to lure them in.

Tomizawa dies in Moto2 race at San Marino yesterday. This was one of the ugliest crashes I've seen in a while.
