Twist the Throttle on HDTV

Has everyone been watching the "Twist the Throttle" series? I've been taping all the episodes, nice series.

I especially enjoyed the Isle of Man TT series. Some great "on Bike" video camera shots. It really gives an appreciation of what it might be like riding at almost 200 MPH through the mountain course.

Twist the Throttle: Turbo

These guys must be totally exhausted after a race, with all the body slamming, head shaking, and other physical activity required and / or subjected to by the riders to maintain control at those speeds. Very impressive.

My one critique, and you'll see what I mean if you watch the series - Why couldn't they use a high speed camera, and mount it to say a Cadillac or other big 'ol road car, and drive the course at normal speed, without all the jerkiness, bouncing and vibration. Do the math, then play it back at high speed to mimic the experience at say 150 MPH, but at least you can see the whole course from the riders perspective, as an armchair viewer. The "on-bike" camera's are fantastic, but too jerky and blurry.

The other series, covering the individual Bike manufacturers, is superb as well. Yamaha, Suzuki, Bimota, Ducati, Honda... etc. Great stuff. Worth a look.

Re: Twist the Throttle on HDTV

I guess I'm ancient. My high tech is the XM on my GPS. I have no flat screen TV nor do we have HDTV and honestly, I'm not interested anyway. I never watch TV unless it's the National Geographic channel or 'How it's made'. In the summertime, never.

Guess that's the country versus the city life.

I've looked at the Flat Screen HDTV's at Wallyworld but they have to get a lot cheaper before this retiree springs for one.

We have fiber optic cable coming in the house, just no receiver. I'd still have 'wabbit ears' if it wasn't for the gumnmit.

Sidecar,

You are wiser than most, and for sure are not missing anything.

You would love the Isle of Man TT stuff though, and I 'think' you can e watch it off of the website listed a few posts back.

We have direct TV, which is absolute and 100% crap. Crap with a capital "C".

Painfully bad reality (what the heck is that) shows with cronically self absorbed imbeciles whining about life, or live TV shows that are basically a televised version of those idiodic newspapers - National Enquirer, Globe, etc. - that Trailer Trash folks buy at the grocery store check out lane.

Yes, there is National Geographic, History, Military, and.... well that's about it! And - truth be told - those are only great about once or twice a week as well!

We (my wife and I ) debate about cancelling it all the time, but when the kids come over, they watch the ballgames, rent movies, etc., so we still have it.

Something tells me that a ton of flatscreen TV's will be coming around on the second-hand / Garage Sale circuit to help pay for those new Harleys!

Ride Safe!

Re: Twist the Throttle on HDTV

I don't watch a lot of TV, but was one of the early DSS technology adopters. I haven't subscribed to a traditional cable service in over 15 years. Recently, we made the switch to DISH Network. It has it's quirks, but offers many HD channels:

Bye Bye DirectTV

The CRT-based TV in the living room can't display the HD channels that well. It was manufactured before the HDMI standard was available. Regardless, plasma-based devices capable of amazing picture quality can be picked up these days for much less than they used to cost. I keep the CRT because it is kid-proof, handprints wipe off easily

I have a Plasma in the bedroom, Science Channel in HD is very cool.
