Innovative Tire / Wheel Balancing

OK guys, get ready to flame away, but I don't care!!!

I just had new tires - Metzeler Lasertecs - installed and conventional balancing done at a very, very professional and experienced shop. Ride was fine, like new. I wanted more...

I just finished installing these "beads" on Tuesday this week, test rode it Wednesday night, adjusted, then test rode again on Thursday night. 64 miles round trip each test run, same exact route, weather, traffic, time of day each time...

36 PSI Front, 38 PSI Rear.

Dyna Beads for Motorcycle Riders and Dealers

Result: Bike rides smooth as silk. Much better than as when new. Very wierd sensation, comparible to someone having coating the tires with stickem', or the tires having tiny, miniscule vacuum cups that are sucking the tires onto the pavement. Hard to explain.

Zero vibration or oscillation at the handlebars. "Hands off" riding at 65 MPH straight and true, zero movement of the handlebars.

If you Google "Dyna Beads" you will encounter tons of results, of which I studied and researched carefully for a few months now.

Two very obvious points came to light:

1.) ALL, and I mean ALL, users complimented and praised the product.
2.) ALL, and I mean ALL, naysayers and critics had never tried or used it, but were skeptical, "new-fearers" and chronic flamethrowing types.

I am not a sucker for gizmo's or gadgets, actually I'm very conservative, but the physics of this intrigued me. I DO like to experiment with things though.

Some viewpoints and tips:

a.) In the end, it's not so cheap, so improved performance and ride needs to be the driving factor Vs longer tire life or whatever. The "Motorcycle Kit" and rush shipping cost me around $35 bucks all in, then $5 bucks more for another 1 ounce bag. - More expensive than traditional wheel balancing.
b.) From internet order to delivery was only 2 days, with three email updates within those two days, Very impressive service. Excellent.
c.) Buy the installation kit - plastic jar and hose thing - as it would be extremely difficult without it.
d. )TAKE YOUR TIME installing. It only takes about 7 minutes tops, so let the beads flow SLOWLY, 5-10 beads at a time - be patient, otherwise you clog up the valve stem, and you need to flick the valve stem with your finger a few times (10-20) to clear it. Go slow and easy.
e.) Note that you remove all the existing wheel weights when you install the beads. IMHO - The kit as purchased (1 oz. front tire, 2 oz. back tire) was not enough. My "tip" would be to note the TOTAL amount of wheel weights - both sides - on the tire, and at LEAST match that weight in beads. The Manufacturer / Supplier might disagree, but they also state that any unneeded beads will simply distribute themselves evenly around the inside perimeter of the tire. My philosophy here is better safe than sorry. My first test run with only 1 ounce in front was... hmmm... "marginal", seemed to be about the same as with weights. I went out in the garage and added up the weights that were originally on the front (1.5 ounce), and rear (2 ounce) tires. Rear was even with the 2 ounces of beads, but the front was short - IMHO - by 1/2 ounce. I purchased another ounce of the beads and installed it. HUGE difference.
f.) Read and study the stuff on the website, especially the "How it works" section. Most, if not all, of the doubting Thomas's haven't read this, nor comprehended it.
g.) The photos of the ceramic beads on the website are misleading - the actual beads are tiny, about the size of the ball head of a pin as when you buy a new shirt. They scale it up in the pics so you can see them better.
h.) No noise whatsoever. Meaning, you cannot hear any beads moving about when you ride.
I.) Very important - check your wheel weights before you do anything. Normally, they should be on both sides of the wheel, in exactly the same position side to side. If there are weights on one side of the wheel, but not the other, this is to compensate for a lateral imbalance, meaning the wheel is out of whack, in which case the beads won't help, and you need a new or repaired wheel. This is explained on the site.

I will keep everyone posted as to progress, but thus far - really, really nice. We are purchasing the beads for my two sons' bikes today. Ultra smooth ride, and again, the wierd sensation of the tires being glued or sucked to the pavement. I opine that it is the elimination of all up/down oscillation or vibration of the tire that causes this, and you get 100% contact at all times. I love it - Great.

Ride Safe!

Lightbulb Re: Innovative Tire / Wheel Balancing

Just over one year later, and I still maintain that these Dyna-Beads are absolutely fantastic. Extremely little tire wear, bike still trails smooth as silk. I would recommend these to any bike owner.

Note that these are only good for tall, thin tires - motorcycles, Tractor Trailer units, etc. If you "google" the product name, note that almost any "negative" plugs broadcast on the misinformation highway are the result of the ill-informed buyer trying it on a clearly non-recommended application.

"I tried these POS things on my '78 Firebird.. and they suck!!"

NOT for low profile, or "fat" tires. Read up on this on their website.

Again, it's now September 2010, so just a tad over one year, and the tires run true, zero vibration, very little overall wear and no tire/stability issues whatsoever up to well over 100 MPH.

Try it... you'll like it

(Dyna-Bead company - you should pay me for the shameless plug!!!)

At any rate, whenever I come across a good, solid product, I like to take the time to give 'em a well earned nod. Most often, all you read on the internet is folks complaining about products that didn't meet preconcieved expectations. These did.

Ride safe (and smooth)!
