I guess I'll "bump" this one back up.
Spring HAS finally arrived for real here in Illinois. 70 or so yesterday (April 11th), about 75 today, and up to 80 F by Wednesday this week.
Hurrah! It's been a long time coming. What a winter! And what an evil temptress this spring had been. A few nice days to get our confidence levels up, then Ka-boom - rain, cold, rain, possible more snow, then rain... then now.
Believe it.. or not... just four days ago it actually snowed here. Just a dusting, but it DID snow. The very next day I was in my Miata, top down, in a Tee-Shirt.
Crazy daze. Anyway, I recently purchased a real nice Rain Jacket for emergencies when riding. $39.00 on sale at
Gander Mountain. It rolls and folds up into small tubular carrying case, that'll fit easily into the saddle bag. I don't know if you have this store where you're at, but it's a hunting / Fishing / Camping store, great stuff. Bright Yellow, so you can see me in the rain as I swoosh by, rooster- tailing.
Got four of 'em, one for the wife, and two for my son's, because you know they would never buy such things.
By the way, the whole trick to effective rain gear is being wise and practical and putting it on BEFORE it starts raining, otherwise if it starts to rain; by the time you react, pull over, unpack, etc. you are soaked already. Now for the big question: How often do I do this? Almost never, but I'm going to try real hard this year.
Anyway, Happy Spring, get out there and ride while you can.
What's up next?
Slimey Crud Run, Pine Bluff to Leland, Wisconsin, Sunday May 2nd, 2010.
No Corporate Sponsors
No Start Time
No Finish Time
No specific Route, just get there.
No Event T-shirts, souveniers, etc.
Just good riders, good fun, a grand day out! It's beginning to get too big for itself, as in an estimated 1000+ participants, but it still remains a fun day for real motorcyclists. No "Bikers"

, or "tough guy" weekend posers

, just real riders out to have a whole lotta fun.
Tyhe real trick is to devise a secretive, but fun and challenging backroads route from Pine Bluff, and avoid the bike traffic on the main roads to Leland. "Main Roads" is a bit of a stretch, as it is in the middle of good ol' Wisconsin Dairyland and farms. Well, as "Main" as you can get 'round there.
Try it some time if you can. I've never seen anyone have a bad time. My older son and I are going. The younger one has heavy work commitments, and the wife is still undergoing Physical Therapy for leg pains, etc., so she's gonna sit this one out. Bummer, but she'll be O.K. soon, she's tougher than me!
Ride Safe (and dry)!
