Re: Riding Before Christmas

I think it's going to rain Sunday, but I'm going to try to ride Saturday. Going to meet around 11:00 then go to Oark for lunch. PM me and I'll give you the meetin' place.

Re: Riding Before Christmas

You guys are lucky. Today, it is 15 degrees F here in Northern Illinois. We've had snow the past few days, but streets are mostly cleared. I did a 360 spin in my car on the way home from the office Wednesday night, because it had rained pretty heavy in the AM, then it turned cold and into solid ice in the PM.

On the bright side, tomorrow, Saturday, it is supposed to rise to 42 degrees by mid-afternoon... good enough for me! Good for at least a two hour ride(!)?

Re: Riding Before Christmas

Had a good ride today although it didn't warm up much and had 40mph wind gusts just cleared the road of the less hardy for us.

We hit some local back roads and headed to the sticks for lunch at an old general store thats been in operation since the 1890's. Just pie and coffee for me as I was needing to warm up. We stopped to look at a river that followed the road and the other guys got some pics of a "swinging" foot bridge that crossed the stream, forgot to take my camera so no pics.

Had a fellow join us that just moved up from Texas so it was nice to meet a new rider in the area. Traffic was low and cops were few, good winter days ride.

Re: Riding Before Christmas

Well, yesterday (Saturday) turned out to be a "no-go". Rained all day, turned cold... as in 11 degrees F, and was uncomfortably (40 mph) windy. I know, big talk about riding, then I chicken out!

TODAY, it's 39 degrees at 7:00 am, and supposed to reach 54 (!) by mid afternoon, then rain again!

Sounds like you guys had some great rides, so jealousy and one-upmanship will need to be added incentives. I'm definitely out there, and will report back later.

54 degrees in northern Illinois in December is a rare and huge gift, so I better use it!

P.S. - Check those tire pressures!

Re: Riding Before Christmas

Well...

It never did reach the predicted 54 degrees, but hit 42 at least. I did get out for just over an hour and a half, and it was good, but ... not great.

Windy, like 45 mph, and in unexpected gusts. Sort of like when an oncoming older truck with a flat front passes by - whoosh!

Regardless, it was fun, and at least I got the bike out, some fluids circulated, and the battery charged.

Overnight, the wind was unbelievable, and the temperature dropped down to 11 Degrees F.

Try again this coming weekend!

Re: Riding Before Christmas

I ended up not riding at all. The wind was fierce, but the weather was beautiful during the middle of the day. It was killing me

Later in the evening however, it started to rain. After midnight we could hear freezing rain outside. This morning I went to work with the 4x4 engaged in 17-degree temps

Re: Riding Before Christmas

Tuesday, 23 December, Northern Illinois...

Well, it looks almost impossible for a ride before Thursday for me!

-2 degrees F yesterday, with a -13 degree wind chill factor (who watched the Bears win over Green bay last night!). Streets are treacherous with ice patches and hard packed snow.

A little warmer today at +3 degrees, but we're looking at 5 inches of snow today, and another 4 inches tomorrow.

For Christmas... O.K., can't beat a nice white Christmas, but afterwards I hope it warms up pronto!

Re: Riding Before Christmas

We ended up riding a short trip on Saturday. By the time we got to our lunch spot the temps were dropping fast. It was a cold trip back home, but it was worth it
