Myrtle Beach R.I.P.

With sincere thanks to all the loud pipes, drunkards, adult children, and others who made this cancellation happen.

Translate it however you wish, but if the bikers were semi well-behaved, minimally respectible, and gave more than they took, rallies like this would still be alive and well.

More than likely... more to come. What to do? Behave, have respect for others and ignore or show non-support for juvenile behaviour at these get togethers. Fun? Sure. A few beers, a lot of laughs, tell some jokes, check out all the bikes and other sights, go on group rides, check out the beach and so on.

Blasting open pipes at all hours, pulling wheelies, donuts and stoppies on the public streets, public drunkenness, pissing on the sidewalk, fighting, etc.

Eventually, we all have to face facts, and grow up. Adulthood is rough, deal with it.

Signed,

Mr. Buzzkill !

If we all rode BMC's, we'd probably feel differently

Regardless, it may not represent the best decision at this time in our economy. The rally would have diminished in attendance anyway. Either due to financial challenges, or a desire to do something new - like grab a good generic motorcycle and enjoy a curvy two-lane road.

Re: Myrtle Beach R.I.P.

Good point about the economic impact, etc.

It will be interesting to see what happens during the "Bike Week" time period this year. How many will 'lower' themselves to wear a Helmet, and how many can sustain from 'blipping' the throttle constantly with a nervous hand?

IF a bike meet were so unbelievably wonderful and life changing that all I needed to do for admission was don a lid, and quiet down some...

On the other hand, IF the payback is there, and the damage done is considerably less than the cold hard cash earned, there shouldn't be a problem.

It's interesting that the new "Rules" spell out specifically that you cannot leave a restaurant without paying. Is this a regular occurance? Must be.

I'll wager that a considerable amount of riders will still show up. Granted, nowhere near the crowds of last year, but enough to make it an event.

Re: Myrtle Beach R.I.P.

There is a very large rally here in NW Arkansas, and every year there is a debate on the value and money earned. Hotels/Motels and bars are the biggest winners but other business claim that they have to practically shut down during the week of the rally.

On the other side the event organizers give all the profits to local charity's, which goes a long way in gaining supporters.

I'm not sure what goes on in Myrtle Beach but BBB&Q is fairly tame until late in the night which is midnight 1 am. I've taken my son down to look at bikes and Bikers and eat some BBQ every year. I have to say that for the most part that the ones that come here are generally friendly and don't cause much mayhem.

The main issue in Fayetteville is that the town was not meant to hold 300,000 people and it is very crowded.

Re: Myrtle Beach R.I.P.

I've never had the desire to attend any motorcycle rally in Myrtle Beach from the things I've heard and read about. If I had lived there and had a voice in local politics, I would have put an end to it a long time ago.

I can't imagine living there and putting up with loud pipes and obnoxious behavior perpetrated by people who know better and who wouldn't pull that shit at their own homes.

Everytime I go to a bike rally it always seems a segment of the group there has to have the loudest pipes and make the most noise possible. It's always interesting that 90% of the time it's a V-twin with the loud pipes... I guess when you ride a weenie you have to exude a big dick.
