The "Innovation Center"

Hello to all!

I'd like to kick off this forum section with a brief(!) description of ... what it is.

In this discussion forum, we will talk about new, exciting, inventive, and innovative things we have done to, heard about, or would like to try on our bikes.

Any ideas out there that you can share? Certainly there is "something" you have done over the years that you feel is "out of the box" style thinking.

As most of us here have gone through the stages many years ago of modding our bikes to the extreme, there is no reason to re-hash endless drivel about which exhaust is best, or the silliness around swiss-cheesing airboxes with "more holes" because the OEM Engineers "don't know what they are doing". These are 'waste-of-time' arguements, and usually self-serving, or validation, for the poster.

To define "Dyno-Queen" - these are bikes that the owners modify endlessly to garner top "HP" bragging rights, but the Powerband is long lost in the process, as are overall rideability, the rev-limiter wisely set by the manufacturer, and resale value (or "recoup" value!).

Not interested. Our bikes are mainly for the street, so let's keep the conversations around street level style riding, and wide, perfect powerbands to make that ride enjoyable and sensible.

Moreso, lets try to come up with new and exciting ideas, inventions, and products, rather than the "same ol', same ol'' stuff. There are a zillion Websites out there with self proclaimed "experts" to tell you exactly how to modify your bike... so it's just like theirs!

Not here please, we prefer new, exciting, thought provoking, and revolutionary new ideas.

Bring it on!

Ride safe!

Re: The "Innovation Center"

Here is a very good, thought provoking article on Horsepower and Torque curves, what they really mean, and the relationship to Powerband.

HP and Torque. Analyzing power curves. - Team Integra

Too often, folks get hung up the the worship of "peak" horsepower readings, forgetting that we all start from a dead stop, and "most"(?) of us ride in the 2500 to 7000 RPM range.

Having "X" horsepower at 1000 RPM over the OEM manufacturers rev limiter / redline does little for the street engine, or rider.

Torque-wise, most racetracks have one or two significant straightaways where you can open 'er up full throttle, but usually ten times as many curves and hairpins, where a straight, level, wide and predictable torque curve makes it all happen.

I believe this could easily relate to enjoyable street riding as well.

Your thoughts?

Ride safe!
